Skype for Sale!

So apparently Skype was for sale? That was sure news to me! And Microsoft bought it!? For a whopping $8.5 billion dollars! First of all, I, along with many of my friends and I’m sure just about everyone who reads this blog, uses or has used Skype. It’s a great and free way to connect with friends and family when you’re long-distance. You can make calls and video chat, which is great for students and family who live out of state or country to feel as if they are actually there with their loved one on the other side of the camera. Because Microsoft bought Skype, they have a list of a few things they want to tweak with the web tool’s 660 million users. First, they want to incorporate X-Box into Skype, especially because the X-Box has cameras attached. Second, they want to improve the Window’s phone (which is not nearly as successful as the Android or iPhones) and incorporate Skype into the mix. Microsoft actually beat Google and Cisco Systems to the punch by purchasing this program first. Also, Facebook was another contender for buying the web tool. Apparently, they are looking to expand ”Facebook chat” to include videos and would Skype as a mainstream. Finally, Hotmail, (which I don’t think any of us have used since “G-mail” came along), will try and revamp its system and use Skype as part of its messaging feature through website. Overall, it was clear that Microsoft was in need of a good lift, and well, they sure got it with their $8.5 billion dollar purchase of one of our favorite tools on the web.
