Bad Timing, Cosmo.

So I think its safe to say that I 100% agree with Armenians across America for being upset with Cosmopolitan publishers. Apparently, Kimmy K aka Kim Kardashian (who makes her Armenian roots well known) took pictures for Cosmo to be published internationally. Ironically enough, Cosmo thought it would be a good idea to place her on Turkey’s Cosmo cover for the month. One problem, Turkey led genocide against Armenia many years ago. As you could imagine, the Armenian National Committee of America was in an uproar (with good reason) questioning Cosmo as to why they would think it’s a good idea to place such a well known Armenian-American on Turkey’s cover, especially after all the hardships and heartbreaks the country had to suffer due to Turkey’s genocide. Kim said she was not aware that her picture would be placed in Turkey’s cover. AND, to add insult to injury, April 24th (only two weeks away) marks the day on the calendar that Armenians remember and pay respect for all of those killed during the genocide. Ultimately, I’m assuming a lawsuit is in the near future as well as a lot of apologies to go around from Cosmo to a lot of angry Armenians.

  1. This makes me wonder about the motive Turkey had to putting her on the cover, knowing about her Armenian background. It seems crude on the surface, and I wonder if it was a technique to say "Hey we Turks Kim Kardasian too" or something more obscene.

  2. As a Public Relations and Advertising major, magazine marketing is something I would love to pursue a career in. With the knowledge I do have with the publishing world, I find it very hard to believe Kim didn;t know she would be on the cover. A celebrity that has been famous for years and has had multiple magazine covers, interviews and publicity as a whole had to have known that Turkey would be featuring her on the cover. To land the cover of a magazine is a serious accomplishment for someone in entertainment. To be on a cover means you are relevant, you are popular and you are admired. In order to lure a celebrity on a cover, contracts are drawn up, clothes are chosen and serious interviews are made. That cover man or woman goes through much communication with the publication before the issue comes out. How could she have not known? I question her validity in this and it only makes her look worse for taking part in this "drama" when she's hurting so many Armenian people.
